CrumbClear Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026 (version 1.0.1)
CrumbClear is a browser extension that deletes cookies and site data after you close a website's tabs. It does not collect, sell or share any personal data. Everything it reads or stores stays in your browser.
What the extension reads
- Addresses of your open tabs. Only the host name (for example
mail.example.com) is used, to decide which sites are still open. - Cookies stored in your browser. CrumbClear reads them to decide which belong to closed sites, and deletes those. Cookie values are never stored or copied.
What is stored, and where
In the extension's local storage on your device (chrome.storage.local):
- Your settings.
- Your lists of sites to keep or to keep until restart.
- Host names of sites you visited since they were last cleaned (at most 2,000), so their site data can be deleted later. A host is removed from this list once it is cleaned. Sites opened in incognito windows are never added.
- A history of the last 100 cleanups: time, reason, number of cookies and sites, and up to 50 cleaned site names each. Sites cleaned from incognito windows are not named. You can clear it in Settings.
- Totals of cookies removed, sites cleaned and cleanups run.
- The version number of this storage format, for future updates.
In memory only, until you close the browser (chrome.storage.session): the host name currently shown in each tab, to notice when a tab moves to another site, and whether the browser has finished restoring tabs after it started.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.
What is sent anywhere
Nothing. CrumbClear makes no network requests. It has no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party code that contacts the network.
